When the first night begins

An Islamic day starts at sunset. The first night of Ramadan, when tarawih prayers begin, is the evening of Sunday 7 February 2027. The first suhoor is before Fajr on Monday 8 February, and the first fast ends at Maghrib that evening.

Ramadan 2027 in the UK and the USA

Mosques in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada do not all use the same method. Some follow a calculated calendar, some follow an announcement made abroad and some wait for the new crescent to be seen locally. Depending on which one your mosque follows, the first fast can fall on 8 February or one day earlier or later.

Suhoor ends at Fajr and iftar is at Maghrib, and both depend on your city: see prayer times in the United Kingdom, in the United States and in Canada.

The last ten nights

Laylat al-Qadr is sought in the odd nights of the last ten. By this calculation the last ten nights begin on the evening of Saturday 27 February. See Laylat al-Qadr 2027.

Why the date can differ by one day

An Islamic month begins with the new crescent moon. The dates on this page come from the Umm al-Qura calendar, a calculated calendar published in Saudi Arabia, and the app uses the same calculation. Many mosques and national bodies announce Ramadan and the two Eids only after the crescent has been seen, locally or elsewhere, or follow a different calculation, so the date they announce can be one day earlier or later than the date here.

If your mosque or community announces a different date, follow that announcement.
