When Eid begins
The night of Eid starts at sunset on Monday 8 March, after the last iftar. The Eid prayer is held in the morning of Tuesday 9 March, after sunrise; each mosque sets its own time. Zakat al-Fitr is given before the Eid prayer.
In many countries Eid al-Fitr is a holiday of one to three days. By this calculation the first three days of Shawwal are 9–11 March. See Ramadan 2027.
Why the date can differ by one day
An Islamic month begins with the new crescent moon. The dates on this page come from the Umm al-Qura calendar, a calculated calendar published in Saudi Arabia, and the app uses the same calculation. Many mosques and national bodies announce Ramadan and the two Eids only after the crescent has been seen, locally or elsewhere, or follow a different calculation, so the date they announce can be one day earlier or later than the date here.
If your mosque or community announces a different date, follow that announcement.
