Prayer Times in New Zealand

How Sahaar calculates prayer times in New Zealand

New Zealand's Muslim community is small and spread across a long country, and no single published timetable serves all of it. Sahaar uses the Muslim World League profile as the preset for the whole country: Fajr when the sun is 18° below the horizon, Isha at 17°, and Dhuhr one minute after the sun crosses the meridian. Those are the angles most calculators start from, so a mosque that does its own arithmetic will usually land close to what is shown here.

The South Island reaches further from the equator than anywhere in Australia, past 46° south at its far end, yet even there on the shortest nights of December the sun still dips below 18°, so no New Zealand city needs a high-latitude substitution. Every Fajr and Isha on these pages is the real astronomical time.

The Asr column defaults to the standard measure (1× shadow). The Hanafi measure (2× shadow) is given next to it on every city page.

Sahaar calculates these times itself; they are not an official timetable. If your mosque or the national association publishes a schedule, treat that as the reference and use this page for the days it does not cover.

Calculated — not an official timetable. Why prayer times differ between apps and timetables.

Cities

3 cities so far, chosen by the size of their Muslim communities rather than by population. On 1 October Fajr comes first in Wellington (05:22) and last in Auckland (05:30), 8 minutes apart; Auckland is the northernmost at 36.8° south and Wellington the southernmost at 41.3° south, so summer nights differ most between them.
