Why the date can differ by one day
A Hijri month begins with the new crescent moon, and there are two ways to fix that day. A calculated calendar sets the dates in advance: Umm al-Qura is the calendar calculated in Saudi Arabia, and it is what many apps use. Other bodies announce a month only after the crescent has been seen, locally or abroad, or follow their own rule. Diyanet in Türkiye publishes its month starts for the year ahead; some of them fall one day before or after Umm al-Qura.
Sahaar applies Diyanet’s published month starts up to Sha’ban 1449 and uses the Umm al-Qura calculation for the months Diyanet has not published yet. The date your mosque or national body announces can still be one day earlier or later than the dates on this page, most often at the start of Ramadan and for the two Eids. If your community announces a different date, follow that announcement.
The Hijri day begins at sunset. This page gives the date for the daytime; from sunset this evening, many people already count the next Hijri day.
Adjusting the date in Sahaar
Sahaar shows the Hijri date on its Today screen and in the Calendar tab. You choose the calendar in Settings › Prayer time calculation › Hijri calendar: Umm al-Qura, Diyanet, FCNA or ECFR.
Since version 1.3, Settings › Prayer time calculation › Hijri date adjustment moves the date up to two days earlier or later, for when the month was announced on a different day where you live. Today, Calendar, Islamic holidays, reminders and widgets follow the adjustment; prayer times do not change. The adjustment is free.
